Tru Silence, Tru Action

Tomorrow morning, PFLAG executive director Jody Huckaby will join more than 850 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District as they kick-off their observance of the annual Day of Silence with cast and crew from the upcoming film Tru Loved, about a brave high school student who starts her own GSA.

The LAUSD School of Social Justice will receive a well-deserved commendation not only for its Day of Silence observance, but for its ongoing, year-round work to make classrooms safe for LGBTQ students. At a time when nearly 2/3 of LGBT students report being verbally harassed, the LAUSD event will be a rallying call to turn ‘tru silence’ into ‘tru action’ and make schools safer for everyone.

Jody will be joined tomorrow by GLSEN executive director Kevin Jennings, actress Jasmine Guy, comedian Bruce Vilanch, Ugly Betty’s Alec Mapa, and Tru Loved star Nichelle Nichols.
