Bruce Vilanch / Even with the impressive number of comedians gracing the Pipeline stage as of late, here’s one joke stylist that you never expected: the contemporary Hollywood Square himself, Bruce Vilanch. Even his appearance is hilarious. The shaggy, blond, rotund man usually wears some sort of bizarrely patterned T-shirt and owns more colorful tacky eyeglass frames than Sally Jessy [Raphael. He] got his start as an entertainment writer for the Chicago Tribune before Bette Midler hired him to be her joke-writer. The rest is Hollywood history as he went on to become a regular on the new version of the aforementioned game show, as well as the go-to one-liner-scribe for the Oscars since 1989. Imagine how much more boring the telecast would have been without him.
