GRAND RAPIDS, MI – “Scrooge & Marley,” the LGBT take on a classic Charles Dickens Christmas story, will premiere in West Michigan at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Wealthy Theatre, as part of the QUEERIES film series.
The film stars David Pevsner as Scrooge and Tim Kazurinsky as Marley, with Bruce Vilanch as Fezziwig. The Chicago-set and -made movie is set in a gay nightclub called Screws, run by Scrooge, who relishes making his employees suffer. The movie is directed by Richard Knight Jr., film critic of the Windy City Times, and Peter Neville.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day of show and $7 for Community Media Center members, available at the Wealthy Theatre box office or website.
The event will include a question-and-answer session after the screening with “Scrooge & Marley” producers Tracy Baim and David Strzepek.
Roger Ebert recently reviewed the film, saying, “The actors mostly have a lot of professional experience, and while ‘Scrooge & Marley’ doesn’t represent a high-water mark for any of them, it has a good heart, high spirits and of course redemption for Ebenezer Scrooge.”
