The Pittsburgh International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival opens Friday at the SouthSide Works Cinema and runs through Oct. 23. Here’s a sampling of movies playing during the first week (reviews are 1 to 4 stars).

Last year’s Vancouver Queer Film Festival boasted sold out two screenings of Casper Andreas’s fag-hag comedy Violet Tendencies (which stars Mindy Cohn of Facts of Life fame). This year, the director is back with his latest feature, Going Down in LA-LA Land .

It’s based on the novel by Andy Zeffer and takes a look at the seedy side of gay Hollywood through the eyes of Adam (the gorgeous Adam Ludwinski), a fresh-faced New Yorker who moves to the City of Angels to pursue his dreams of becoming a star—like everyone else and their dildo. He moves in with his requisite best female friend, the entertainingly durable Candy (Allison Lane). Unfortunately, he has no savings. And her financial situation, not to mention career, is rapidly drying up as well. Read More
