Tony winner Betty Buckley (Cats), Tony winner LaChanze (The Color Purple), Michael Urie (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) and Jessie Mueller (On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) have joined the roster of performers for the previously announced Broadway Backwards 7 concert. Directed and choreographed by creator Robert Bartley, Broadway Backwards 7 will take place March 5 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The event will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York City.
Broadway Backwards gives audience members a chance to experience some of the Great White Way’s most treasured songs in a new context as performers take on songs originally written for their opposite gender. Last year’s show raised $281,243 for the aforementioned charities.
Other performers scheduled to appear include Barrett Foa (Avenue Q), Jackie Hoffman (The Addams Family), George Takei (Star Trek), Charles Busch (The Divine Sister), Len Cariou (Sweeney Todd), Elizabeth Stanley (Million Dollar Quartet), Brian Charles Rooney (Threepenny Opera), Jason Michael Snow (The Book of Mormon), Jim Brochu (Zero Hour), Dan Butler (Frasier), Jenn Colella (High Fidelity), Nancy Dussault (Into the Woods), Anthony Federov (The Fantasticks) and Harvey Evans, in addition to previously announced participants Adam Pascal, Andrew Rannells, Bruce Vilanch, Bryan Batt, Sierra Boggess, Mario Cantone, Telly Leung, Robin De Jesus and Shawna Hamic.
The creative team includes musical director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, lighting designer Ryan O’Gara, costume designer Philip Heckman and co-choreographers Stephanie Klemmons and Patrick O’Neill.
